ifup/dhclient are tun in the background. This sleep does not increase
boot time.

Changed in dhcp3:
status: Unconfirmed → Rejected

You could have fooled me. What's the ifup -a call doing in the foreground in /etc/init.d/networking then?

The call to sleep shows up quite clearly on my bootchart.

Actually, I was misreading it. The call to ifup -a does show up, but dhclient is connected to a different invocation of ifup from udev.
