I forgot to mention, the panel does disappear if the video is left clicked after going to fullscreen.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please answer these questions:

 * Is this reproducible?
 * If so, what specific steps should we take to recreate this bug?
 * Do you use compiz there?

 This will help us to find and resolve the problem.

Yes.

Making a video fullscreen causes the bug with my compiz profile (see below).

 * Do you use compiz there?
I do use compiz.

I found that setting Appearance Preferences -> Visual Effects to None, Normal, or Extra fixed the problem. Previously I was using a custom compiz profile, which I've attached. Changing back to that profile causes the bug again.

I have been trying to determine which setting in compiz is causing the bug, but I haven't been able to find it yet.

I had the same problem after upgrading from 9.04. I needed to left-click to make the top panel disappear. I didn't use a custom compiz profile.

I just switched from 'extra' to 'normal' and the problem dissapeared. I switched back to 'extr'a and the problem remains solved.

The problem is solved temporarily by switching between compiz appearance profiles (normal/extra) but comes back.

can also confirm. I also use 64 bit and an nvidia graphics card. This problem certainly did not exist in 9.04.

switching from extra->none worked.

The problem is with the "Wobbly Windows" Compiz plugin. Disabling it solves the problem, so I think that there's the bug.

Another thing: It happens too with other fullscreen apps (Comix, Evince, Firefox, Chrome...).

Disabling "Wobbly Windows" solves the problem for me too. However I have not noticed the problem with any other fullscreen apps (I've tested Firefox, Evince, MPlayer and VLC).

Enabling "CompizConfig->Workarounds->Legacy Fullscreen Support" also fixes the problem, and without needing to change any other settings.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect <bug #> and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
