input jack doesn't work on dell xps m1530

I found a solution:

run alsamixer in terminal, then set the 'digital' switch to analog (the 'front mic jack mode' switch doesn't do anything, as one might think). Anyway, I can't find this option/setting in the gnome-volume-control app.

another thing:
if I run gnome-alsamixer, I can see a 'digital input source' switch, which doesn't do anything and the terminal gives:

** (gnome-alsamixer:4925): WARNING **: gam_toggle_get_state (). No idea what to do for mixer element "Digital Input Source"!

I've got what I can see is the same issue, except that I don't have any such options when running 'alsamixer', presumably because I'm using pulseaudio. As mentioned above, gnome-alsamixer doesn't seem to help either with trying to set the 'Digital input source' to be on, or to select any of the 3 'Captures' I have to be selected for recording.

Please, if you are still having issues, test with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p alsa-base 461732

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
