System hangs after opening Empathy/Contact

Whatever empathy is doing a system hang is not the software fault the install should be robust to user softwares there

It seems to be working without a glitch now. However, no sound nor
video function at all.
Lenovo R61
80 Gig HD
2 Gig RAM
Stock hardware

Is this problem present with the latest updated Karmic's or Lucid's packages?
