Bug Description

Binary package hint: xwax

When trying to launch xwax from the command line, the following error is given:
Font 'Vera.ttf' cannot be found in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ttf-bitstream-vera /usr/share/fonts/ttf-bitstream-vera /usr/share/fonts/TTF.

Apparently ttf-bitstream-vera has been removed from Karmic. See comment #14 here:

For now, an easy workaround is to install the ttf-bitstream-vera font package. I'll work on making a patch that will require this package on install. Upstream has mentioned that they're planning on moving the software to DejaVu since it's much more widely used.

ttf-bitstream-vera does not seem to be in the repositories for a default installation of Karmic RC UNR. Is there another repository that's missing?

My mistake, it is infact removed entirely from the current Karmic repositories. A manual install of the Jaunty .deb file will fix it though. That .deb file is available here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/jaunty/all/ttf-bitstream-vera/download

Can we find a way to fix this properly? Can we patch xwax to use another font?

I know this has been fixed upstream and it may already be fixed in lucid's 0.6 version of xwax. It is a simple fix to write a patch for Karmic though.

It's not fixed in 0.6-3 in lucid yet. It's fixed in upstream 0.7-beta2 though.

This has been fixed upstream, 0.7 is released. 0.7-2 is available in Debian too.

I'll ask for a sync, this is a bug fix release.
