the k3b packages doesn't seem to have a dependency on cdrdao, but k3b needs it :)

Hmm..

strange thing, it asks you for it, when you start it the first time...and from the webpage, 0.3.10 had a requirement on cdrdao and 0.3.11 not anymore?

Ok,

I tested a bit. CDRDAO is not needed, what I can see.
We should remove it completly, and patch this nasty dialog out of the source.
