Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

Empathy doesn't sign in to MSN, it just keeps on trying to sign in with that waiting sign next to the status box, but nothing happens. Tried to sign in to Gtalk and it worked, don't know what's wrong with msn... Using Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 with all the updates. Tried to remove and install again using Ubuntu Software Center but it didn't work.
Thank you.

Empathy version: 2.28.0-0ubuntu2

I tried to reproduce this in Karmic beta (up to date) and works fine for me. Could you attach output of this command:

EMPATHY_LOGFILE=/tmp/empathy.log GST_DEBUG=\*fsrtp\*:5 EMPATHY_DEBUG=all empathy

Changed in empathy (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

I don't really understand what you want me to do with that command, so I used the command line and pasted it there and it opened empathy. The I clicked help - debug and I copied everything to this file. Hope I'm helping ....

Maybe this is the problem?

Don't understand why it only affects some of us ... Hope it gets fixed until karmic final release, as well as the dvd reading and ejecting problem. (And I also think mp3's have bad sound quality)

I used dext's advice on this post (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1282720) and it works now. Just removed telepathy-butterfly with telepathy-haze installed and it works now. So, whats wrong with telepathy-butterfly?

Brian : Salut is for the link-local/bonjour protocol so it's not related.

To help correct this problem we would need either the telepathy-butterfly log (if you are using butterfly to connect to MSN) or the telepathy-haze log (if that's what your are using)

You can look for instructions on how to provide logs by looking at this page :

So, I ran this command BUTTERFLY_PERSIST=1 BUTTERFLY_DEBUG=all /usr/lib/telepathy/telepathy-butterfly 2>&1 | tee butterfly.log, opened empathy using butterfly and the output is in the attachment. Hope it helps.

So, after today's updates empathy started working with telepathy-butterfly. I don't know what caused this, although there was an update for something called python-papyon. Looked it up on karmic changes mailing list and says
"papyon (0.4.2-1ubuntu3) karmic; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/03_git_fix_utf8_problem.patch: fixes login in cases with
unicode conversion errors. (LP: #439638)" and
"Description:
python-papyon - MSN client library written in Python"

Think the problem is solved, thank you everybody :)
