Bug Description
Binary package hint: ibus
ibus as shipped in karmic right now has an issue where the daemon fails to start when an old config file is around. deleting ~/.config/ibus solves the problem. This issue is known and solved upstream. Considering that the 1.2 series of ibus is a development release anyway, maybe updating the version in karmic to the latest upstream version would make sense?

We have 1.2.0 in karmic and lucid, so the fix should have landed. Please reopen if you experience this problem again
