bluetooth does not work in GNOME in karmic

Bug Description

The bluetooth applet does not turn bluetooth on/off, can't search or ad devices, etc.

This used to work in Jaunty.

This sounds like two bugs... not turning off bluetooth, and not being able to add devices.
The add devices one may be this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-bluetooth/+bug/423090
It was just fixed... but as comments at the bottom say, it's broken again (at least for me).
Not sure about the not turning off... right now I don't even have that option anymore. May be some other problem.

Hi,

since I installed Karmic my bluetooth dongles don't work anymore. I plug them in (only one at a time) and even after a sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth (re)start nothing happens.

I have the same problem. The odd thing is, it was working for me until I started playing around with the blueman packages. After rebooting with blueman installed it stopped working. Now even after removing blueman, I still can't get it working.
