Bug Description

when the user is double clicking on a video file, totem will open up and play the video file.

now, since there is only one file on the playlist, there is no need to show the sidebar

This may make sense for videos, but don't do this for audio. What if I want to open a file, then add to the playlist? I can't, because it's hidden.

I agree with Rich Jones.

I often open only one music file, and drag other files in the playlist while the first one is playing.

I also do the same for video. I open one episode, then I drag the next one in the playlist before the current one is over.

Don't mix behavior between audio and video files.

But how about this:

* If the user douple clicks a file then start totem with closed sidebar.
* If the user drags a file over totem, then open the sidebar so he can choose to drop the file
o in the main window (sidebar closes again after this) or
o in the sidebar to enqueue the file (sidebar stays now open).

Similar to dragging a file over a mailclient, when a sidbar/pane opens to attach the file to mail.

Could be quite intuitive and matches the usecases of Rich Jones and Antoine Leclair.

Personally I think that this bug would be best solved by having a proper media library manager as part of the Ubuntu desktop. Banshee does video and audio, and maintains a library so that this issue effectively becomes moot, doesn't it?

This is no sense for me. If I close the sidebar, stay closed, if last time was opened, keep it open.

No one knows better if someone is going to add video/audio to sidebar than the final user, suppose what it' going to happen after double clicking a video/audio file is pure magic.

(Sorry about my English).
