same here, while trying to test karmic alpha 5.
On a toshiba satellite P300-1HO, wifi doesn't work. and neither does wired ethernet.

ifconfig just shows the loopback device.

and I also get (repeated many hundreds of times, every ~15ms):

with at the end:

iwlagn 0000:02:00.0: PCI INT A disabled
iwlagn: probe of 0000:02:00.0 failed with error -110

And moreover the wired ethernet device doesn't show up either, but I don't see related messages in the logs. (But I have to investigate further.)

it's with the x64 kernel.

works fine with jaunty, kernel 2.6.28-15.

This is solution without revert previsous Yinghai Lus patch (it create this problem)

Both solutions (revert problematic patch or this commint without revert) works for me. But this is signed by Linus.

When this fix will be committed in kernel karmic?

I am not sure if this information is useful. I have the same problem (2.6.31-14-generic). wlan did not work on my Dell Vostro 1520 with a hardware wlan switch.
In my case It seems to be similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/linux/+bug/395358

When I switch my wlan on ( killswitch=off) before I boot, wlan will not work. checked rfkill list:

>rfkill list
0: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: yes
1: phy0: Wireless LAN
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: no

Next I switch the wlan off - >

>rfkill list
0: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: no
1: phy0: Wireless LAN
 Soft blocked: no
 Hard blocked: yes

So this seems to be wrong.
But when I switch wlan off ( killswitch=on) before I boot with I can enable the wifi adapter after login and wlan works perfect.
And it also works if I boot with older kernel 2.6.28-16-generic.

So for my understanding the default setting of the rfkillswitch in kernel 2.6.31-14 seems to be wrong

Can anybody give me a feedback if my posting (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/418933/comments/94) should be related to the new kernel (2.6.31-15)?

When I test the rfkill list it shows still wrong result if the hardware WLAN switch is on before booting:
