Bug Description

Binary package hint: metacity

When compiz is enabled and when rotating the cube, panels and windows edge-frames begin to flicker and it happens when GTK window decorator is enabled, there is no flickering when emerald decorator is enabled. So, I'm not sure this is a metacity bug, but it's a very annoying and ugly failure.

Hmm, I'm not sure that Compiz itself is responsible for this issue, since
compiz works perfect with Kwin in KDE. I've also noticed that there is
flickering in gnome-panels without compiz.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

I am not able to reproduce this problem in karmic.

Mostly is visible when I right click on desktop and menu pops up and when I
rotate the cube the edges of panels starts flickering, that happens only
with darker themes and "GTK Window Decorator" not with emerald. I'm using
wave effect.

Yes and not only in Ubuntu but in every distro I've used and on every
computer I've install with various graphic cards. Here is the example on

Oh, that. Yeah, that's caused by aliasing. If you enable antialiasing in nvidia-settings then restart compiz that should go away (but it has a pretty large performance hit). There is no way for compiz to prevent that happening.
