Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04

Version of the package: 2.0.0.22

What you expected to happen:
If I open the Netbeans 6.7 IDE I expect that the thunderbird mail client will keep open.

What happened instead:
If I open the Netbeans 6.7 IDE then the thunderbird email client is suddenly closed. If I try to launch it from a terminal (while the Netbeans is still running) I get a "Segmentation Fault" error.

I am able to launch the thunderbird again under the following circumstances:
- If I close the Netbeans IDE.
- If I launch the thunderbird (safe mode)
- If I launch the thunderbird with the lightning extension disabled.
- If I wait a couple of minutes then I am able to open the thunderbird again; however, about 10 minutes later the thunderbird is suddenly closed.

(There are 3 installed extentions: lightning, provider google calendar, timezone definitions)

Please install libstdc++5 and try to reproduce this bug. Are you able to
just close Netbeans IDE and restart Thunderbird? The other day i was
going through email and found a few Netbeans bugs. I really dont think
this is a lightning bug.

I would like it if you could use apport-collect to add all the info
needed to continue with this bug.Use the following command

apport-collect 405596

I added tasks to cover everything that could have crashed,
off the top of my head

I was able to restart thunderbird once the Netbeans has been closed.

By the way, I have proceed with the installation of the libstdc++5 package. Right now, there seems to be no problems with the thunderbrid nor netbeans applications. I will test it a bit more before confirming this bug as solved.

If you have any other question about my local configuration, please let me know.

Thanks for your time.

It seems this bug is not solved. The thunderbird application suddenly got closed. At that moment I was running the netbeans and Virtual Box applications.

Once the thunderbird got closed, if I tried to launch it again through the terminal, it showed the following error: "Segmentation fault".

I was not able to launch the thunderbird until I closed the Netbeans.

Dennis,

what version of Java are you using for Netbeans? My issue https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/406324 with Netbeans (6.5) and Thunderbird (with Lightning extension) was similar and seems to be fixed when using JDK 6 from Ubuntu 9.04 repo. (Before, I was using JDK 5 from Ubuntu 9.04 repo).

I have installed the openjdk-6-jdk (JDK 6) from Ubuntu repository.
The version of Netbeans I have installed, is the 6.7 (I can not use the 6.5 that is in the repository because it have problems when you try to edit PHP files - there are some "null pointer exceptions" and "array of bound exceptions"; this problem has been solved in the Netbeans 6.7).

Seems there is no problem running the netbeans 6.7.1 and the Thunderbird at the same time in Karmic.

I had this same problem with 9.04 too. After reading Dennis Cohn's quote, I upgraded to Karmic, and the problem went away until a few days ago. Thunderbird is now shutting down after an unspecified time. Trying to restart it results in Thunderbird appearing briefly (i.e. before email list displays) and then shuts down.

If you load Thunderbird and Netbeans, and do not use Netbeans but leave it in the background, but continue to use Thunderbird, it seems ok and couldn't replicate Thunderbird closing. However, if you do it the other way around and use Netbeans Thunderbird will close.

Is it safe to close this bug since our package works?
