Popey, Thanks for your bug report. There are no dups and this may be a card specific bug. It has all the necessary files since you used apport, marking as confirmed because of that. I will mark as regression-potential. Medium importance, will mark higher if more bug reports come in.

Changed in xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: New → Confirmed
tags: added: regression-potential

KMS, composite, and UXA seem to be okay, so this sounds like a compiz bug. Can you please attach ~/.xsession-errors after a failed attempt to start compiz? How did you try to enable it? (Start by default, as in Jaunty, or in the system preferences menu, etc.)?

affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) → compiz (Ubuntu)
Changed in compiz (Ubuntu):
assignee: nobody → Robert Ancell (robert-ancell)
status: Confirmed → Incomplete

After applying all updates to my system this morning, I was able to start compiz and try out a number of visual effects with no problems.

Feel free to close this bug.

Thanks.

looks like an issue with my custom rolled kernel. Works okay in the stock karmic kernel. Sorry.
