Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

If UXA is enabled and I attempt to start the second instance of X server (for example by choosing 'switch user' option in logout menu). The console freezes (monitor is black and pressing all sorts of combinations like ctrl+alt+F<1-7>, ctrl+alt+del doesn't have any effect). I'm however still able to ssh to the machine.
I'm attaching Xserver log from the second instance: it says "Failed to initialize kernel memory manager" at the end.

When UXA is not enabled everything works fine.
These probably means there are two problems here:
first, it would be cool if I could have to instances of X with UXA,
second, even if it's not possible to start second instance with UXA the console should not be freezed.

Cheers

Today I tried xserver-xorg-video-intel v. 2.7.99.1+git20090602.ec2fde7c-0ubuntu1 + libdrm-2.4.11. The situation is a bit better. But really only a bit: after launching the second instance of X the console does not freeze and second instance of X starts, but the screen is whole black with only mouse pointer on it. Apart from this it's fully functional: I can move the mouse and changes shape if you manage to find login window. I can login and it seems it starts whole X session correctly, but the screen is whole black all the time.
Also attempt to navigate between virtual consoles with ctrl+alt+F<n> usually crashes the first instance.
I will attach logs and config in a minute.

Cheers

Argh, few minutes after my tests on 2.7.99.1+git20090602.ec2fde7c-0ubuntu1 I got to know that 2.7.99.1+git20090602.ec2fde7c-0ubuntu2 was released :|

Things are getting better with each release but still aren't perfect ;) Second instance still has a black screen with only mouse pointer visible, but first instance doesn't crash any more when I change virtual console with ctrl+alt+F<n>. I'm attaching new logs just in case.

You should probably test on a 2.6.30-rcX kernel, which will have a LOT of fixes for freeze issues.

I'm happy to report that upgrading to kernel 2.6.30-9 indeed solved the problem :)

Many thanks
