Bug Description

I am running ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty) with KDE4 with a Microsoft wireless Desktop 6000 (v2).

I configured some keyboard shortcuts to start custom applications [2] and they all work well until I terminate the KDE session and log in again.

If I do so, three configured keys [1] do not start any application. In "System settings" -> "Keyboard" -> "global shortcuts" (menus are possibly named similar, I use a non-english installation), all keys appear configured correctly.

If I
- configure the three disfunctional actions to any other key,
- hit "apply",
- configure the actions back to my favourite keys and
- hit "apply" again,
all works well for the current session.

If I configure the same action to other keys, everything works well after starting a new session.

Until fixed somehow, I have to reconfigure these three keys everytime I start a new KDE session.

[1] Two out of the three keys are located within a set of six keys to the left. They are labeled with pictures showing a phone (lower right) and a document (upper left). The last key is below the six-key-panel, is labeled with a gead and something like "Mini Application" (translated by me). It is to the right of to zooml keys.

[2] I configured [1] to start following applicatione: Dolphin, Konsole and Prism

affects: ubuntu → kdebase-workspace (Ubuntu)

Interesting, back-to-back keyboard issues I am triaging this evening. I am wondering if you may be experiencing an issue with using modifiers (alt, shift, ctrl) with these? I have keys similar, like one to open a web browser, email, and such and they all work fine, and I didn't even have to configure those.

As a matter of fact, I think the other keyboard issue tonight was on a MS keyboard, possibly the same one. Of course it is burried somewhere here under the kdebase-workspace bugs, so if I get a chance I will double check it. thanks!

I don't know why - but somehow the issue I described disappeared. I cannot say if it was due to local changes or any package update.

The only persisting problem concerning special keys is that sometimes the key remains "virtually pressed" after hitting.
This is: I press the "open appllication x" key one time and KDE keeps on opening one application instance after the other until I kill the service KDED. Just as I never released the button.
I don't think that this is a hardware problem: If I disconnect the keyboard from the computer, KDE keeps on starting new application instances.
This behaviour occures only sometimes - perhaps every third day or so...

Is this subject for another bug-report?

I'm running KDE4.3.1 and see this issue too.

I'd like to rebind Global Keyboard Shortcuts -> Plasma -> Activate App Launcher, but each time KDE starts the custom key is reset to Alt-F1. Reproducible on two different machines (although both run MS Wired 600 keyboards).
