Bug Description

Binary package hint: cups

We have two computers running Ubuntu 9.04 which is unable to print to a Konika Minolta C450 network printer. Tried with both the generic postcript printer and the PPD for the printer. There is no apparent error message, the pop-up dialog says the print job was completed successfully, but absolutely nothing happens on the printer side. No print job is reported on the printer as arrived. Monitoring with wireshark show that there is network traffic between computers and printer.

Exact same printer setup works flawlessly in Ubuntu 8.04 and Ubuntu 8.10.

Some additional info:
System messages from the printer works, like "Toner low" etc.

lpq reports the printer as ready, and shows entries when local jobs get submitted.

Dear all,

I may have found something that is of relevance. When I had reporting of PS-Errors enabled with a Konica Minolta bizhub 250 I get an error message sheet, which says:

----
Emperor Error Page

%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: get; Info: A4 ]%%

----

When PS-Error reporting is disabled the behaviour is as described in the inital posting.

@Hogne: Could you check if this behaviour is consistent with your problem.

It does not seem to be a general ps-related problem affecting other printers. I can easily print to CUPS-PDF and a HP Color Laserjet 2840 via network

Thanks in advance,

Stephan

Hello,

same pb at office with a konica minolta C450. I can't enable the debug PS mode because I'm not administrator. Anyone found a way to make it work?

After some tests i manage to have this page

ERROR: ioerror
OFFENDING COMMAND: status

STACK:
/(YTEJZE+CourierNEWPSMT*1)
/YTEJZE+CourierNEWPSMT*1
/font
/YTEJZE+CourierNEWPSMT*1

I remember this printer works perfectly with 8.04...

Can you try the following: Replace the file /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops by the attached file and make the new file executable ("sudo chmod 755 /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops"). Then try to print again. Does it work now?

Note that currently bug 310575 still applies with it, but this will soon be solved by a Poppler fix (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19777, bug 382379).

I can confirm that after replacing /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops with the file attached above it works here also.

I am also happy to confirm that above mentioned procedure fixes the issue.

Thank you.
