Bug Description

2.6.12-10-powerpc gives up, saying that it can't find the root partition:

Begin: Initializing /dev ...
Done.
Begin: Running /scripts/init-premount ...
Done.
Begin: Mounting root file system ...
Begin: Running /scripts/local-top ...
Done.
ALERT! /dev/sda8 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

BusyBox <blahblah>

/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off
#

Works fine with the 2.6.10-5-powerpc-smp kernel from Hoary, although it does not find CPU 1. This is on a Power Macintosh 9500/180MP.

Have you upgraded to Ubuntu 6.06 LTS?

If so, does the problem persist?

Could you test this on Dapper 6.06.1 or Edgy Beta 1 so we could see if it still exists.
