Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

My computer setup:
- Laptop with display 1280x800
- Attached monitor 1920x1080
- Using gnome-display-properties from Ubuntu 9.04 to use both screen non-mirrored
- Mainscreen / where gnome panels are is the smaller laptop screen
- No custom Xorg conf, using default intel chipset configuration

Observation:
- The notification area is on the the right monitor on the same height as it would have been on the main screen. Because the right screen is bigger, the notification floats somewhere in the middle of my screen
- The smaller monitor seems to have a virtual height of 1920 pixels: I can move the mouse out of the upper screen and opening menus don't respect the upper screen bound
- It worked in Ubuntu 8.04

Expected behaviour:
- OSD notifications appear on one upper right screen, preferably the primary monitor
- No virtual screen size of smaller monitors

I don't want to criticise your decision Pedro, but the new OSD is one of the most-touted new features of Ubuntu 9.04. If it doesn't work properly on a fairly standard computer setup and this is considered not important, it's somehow ironic, don't you think :) ?

I have a similar problem:
Song change notifications from Rhythmbox, and new mail from Evolution, appear too far down the screen - as if it's below a non-existent notification.

Volume change appears in the expected position, directly below the panel.

System has a nVidia dual-head card running TwinView, glx, compiz:

Notification also misplaced for Hamster time tracker.
I suspect that this occurs with all notifications not triggered by a user.

Also occurs on my Asus eee pc 900.

I've got the same problem with Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10 beta 64bits.

I also have a resolution problem on boot : https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/446412 ... Do you ?

I have a similar problem.

Setup:
    - Laptop Toshiba Satellite M100-222.
    - Ubuntu 9.10 with latest updates.
    - Laptop display is turned off.
    - Attached monitor 1280x1024.

Notifications appear too far down the screen - as if it's below a non-existent notification. Volume change appears in the expected position, directly below the panel. See attached screenshot.

Have the same problem after upgrading to 9.10 RC.

Display resolution is 1280*1024, Nvidia card (8600GT, new 185 driver), Compiz enabled.

Just want to confirm this:
Running 9.10(rc) 64bits, single screen(1920x1200) with NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-190.42, and the OSD is often placed wrong(somewhere in the middle of the screen on right side).

I'm having the same trouble in 9.10. It was working in 9.04. Just updated. Not runing 64-bit, just 32...
Smaller resolution than most. Compiz enabled.

notification appearing too low on a netbook Edit (732.9 KiB, image/png)

I am having the same problem on 9.10 netbook remix. See attached screenshot for details. I am running a netbook, no screen attached whatsoever. Already without this bug screen space is limited with a vertical 600 pixels.

When 2 messages appear, they go further down than the middle of my screen sometimes - and won't disappear most of the time because the probability of my cursor being somewhere there around the middle of the screen is very high.

Possibilities of fixing this: Let user decide on position like with the former notify-daemon?

Same problem as described above. It's actually quite a significant problem. In fact, the notification icon's position should be easily customisable. Right now even if it were showing up completely on the screen I wouldn't be satisfied with its position.

I can confirm this problem on various machines with various screen sizes, mostly UNR, and none of which are dual head setups. I feel that this bug should not contain the "dual head" component.

I also agree with lafleche.jonathan. This is a significant bug that severely impacts the available screen space on a netbook. I feel that this bug should not be a low priority bug.
