Bug Description

Binary package hint: audacity

cut and paste operations appear to be affecting unselected tracks. for example, if i have a project with four tracks and i select part of the first one only and then cut that selected audio (using ctrl+x or the menu), the same timespan is cut from the other three tracks. if i copy a selection of audio from one project and paste it at the beginning of an empty track in another project, a silence of length equal to the clipboard is inserted at the beginning of all the other tracks.

i have not seen this behavior in any build of audacity before, going back at least five years. although there are undesirable workarounds for some aspects of the bug (such as using "split cut" instead of "cut" and then manually realigning the region), this behavior makes editing multi-track projects in any nontrivial way essentially impossible.

i am able to reproduce the same behavior regardless of whether i am using pulseaudio or addressing the ALSA driver directly. i am able to reproduce the same behavior after moving all ~/.audacity* out of the way and allowing audacity to create them anew.

this seems to apply only to my preexisting projects, not to ones created freshly with this build.

There seems to be a menu option "Tracks > Link Audio and Label Tracks". When enabled, all tracks are cut simultaneously, when disabled, only the selected track.

Same as comment #2.
"Tracks > Link Tracks" was checked by default.
after unchecking behavior became normal.
