Compiz won't load properly on Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Release Candidate

Bug Description
Binary package hint: compiz
I'm using Jaunty Release Candidate, and have been having this bug for a LONG time. I initially thought it was a compositing issue, so I commented on bug 178953. However, after running compiz-check and still having no luck, I ran compiz from the Terminal and got errors which were confirmed to be unrelated to the bug by a wiser user. Taking his advice, I'm filing this bug report.
