Where is the log of the actual crash?

If you can't reproduce it, install the version in my PPA, and killall
pulseaudio ; pulseaudio -vvv

The sound sizzles until you restart the computer when you edit the volume in gnome-volume-control.

Please reproduce the symptom using the latest versions of pulseaudio and linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) from ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev.
