Bug Description

I am running Kubuntu Gutsy 7.10 on an Athlon 64 dual-core system. This system normally runs in unattended and headless mode. It had an unexplained restart on the night of April 10.

I am running the 2.6.22-16-rt real time kernel with VmWare and a single VM was running (but not likely used much) at the time of the crash.

Result of uname -a:

Linux kpas1 2.6.22-16-rt #1 SMP PREEMPT RT Mon Jan 26 00:42:03 GMT 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Boot section in /boot/grub/menu.lst:

title Ubuntu 7.10, kernel 2.6.22-16-rt
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.22-16-rt root=/dev/sda1 ro noapic
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.22-16-rt
quiet

Hi Kevin,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid . If the issue remains, please run the following command from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 359756

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.
