Bug Description

Hi,
I've upgraded my Ubuntu 8.10 to Ubuntu 9.04 — Jaunty Jackalope recently. After update 2 days ago and reboot I've found my awm gives out error:

"Warning: Screen isn't composited. Please run compiz (-fusion) or another compositing manager."

Also I found out all effects are gone, I couldn't turn them on at System -> Options -> Appearence. All compiz cube rotations and such gone away aswell. Here what happens when I try to run compiz manually:

itzamna@pureenergy:~$ compiz --replace
Checking for Xgl: not present.
xset q doesn't reveal the location of the log file. Using fallback /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Detected PCI ID for VGA:
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: not present.
Trying again with indirect rendering:
Checking for texture_from_pixmap: not present.
aborting and using fallback: /usr/bin/metacity

I do not use metacity or at least I don't know if I'm doing it. Always had gtk theme + compiz running on.

I also can't run any opengl game anymore: openarena for instance says GLimp_Init() - could not load OpenGL subsystem.

I have Asus GeForce 9800 GTX, I was using drivers from nvidia.com, thought maybe it has something to do with it so i've installed ubuntu's restricted drivers for my card - nothing have changed.

What can it be, should i provide some other info?

Add:
I've just updated Ubuntu and all is working as it should again. Sorry for disturbing you.

Slightly different issue for me. Compiz doesn't start after login (no window manager), but getting to a terminal and running compiz runs fine (window manager ok).

Take a look to bug #340140, it seems to be more like mine, even if I get "Xgl not present" message.

Solved the issue by deleting ~/.config folder.
