Bug Description

Binary package hint: udev

Samsung YP-S3 MTP device does not work with current libmtp 0.3.0, however it works perfectly with 0.3.6. If libmtp 0.3.6 is included in jaunty final release (bug 315679), this device would need to be enabled by adding the following lines to /lib/udev/rules.d/45-libmtp8.rules :

# Samsung YP-S3
ATTR{idVendor}=="04e8", ATTR{idProduct}=="5091", SYMLINK+="libmtp-%k", MODE="660", GROUP="audio"

Note that this rule is likely invalid; the "audio" group is not intended for users, but reserved for system daemons that require audio device access. The Samsung isn't an audio device, just a Media Player (ie. there's no audio interface here)

You probably mean that you want hal-info updated to include the device id, so that an ACL for console users is added instead?

affects: udev (Ubuntu) → libmtp (Ubuntu)

Scott James Remnant : If you look at 45-libmtp8.rules, you'll see that this file only contains identical rules for mobile devices such as Samsung YP-S3. I thought that these rules were necessary as they seems to tell the computer to use libmtp for these specific devices. Even My Creative Zen is a part of that list.

However I found today that I'm able to use the samsung with rhythmbox without that rule enabled, so I might be wrong. You probably know it better than I. If it's the case, don't hesitate to close the bug report. Thanks for your guidance!
