Bug Description
Binary package hint: kopete-kde4
I'm using the developmental version Of Jaunty Kubuntu 9.04(KDE 4.2) and Kopete version 0.70.0
What I expected to happen when I had Kopete open was I that the notifications would become disabled them under:
Settings > Configure Notifications... and un-checked "Show a message in a popup"
The messages continued to appear but now clicking view or ignore did nothing. I rechecked "Show a message in a popup" and I could then click view or ignore with one exception. The notifications I had received while I had the box unchecked remained in the notification area.
To solve this problem, I simply right clicked on the system tray and removed it. I then added it (system tray widget) back and the notifications where gone.
To simply solve the problem of the notifications from Kopete from showing up, I went to Computer > System Settings > Notifications and selected Kopete as the event source and disabled notifications for incoming messages.
Currently, in Settings > Configure Notifications for Kopete, the box is checked for "Show a message in a popup" and I do not receive them, thankfully. I think this could confuse some users if they do not want the notifications and uncheck this option only to receive the notifications and be unable to "remove" the notifications without removing the systemtray and then adding it back.
I am unsure if this is a problem with Lopete or the new notification system, but it is kind of a pain. May even be spread wider for other programs?

Could you take a screenshot of your notifications configuration dialog please?
