Bug Description

I'm using Kubuntu 8.10 with KDE 4.2 updates for intrepid from kubuntu-
experimental.

In KDE 3.x the system tray collapsed itself after some seconds, if one opened the system tray with the "<" button.

In KDE 4.2 the system tray stays open forever and there's also no config option to change this behaviour.

It would be nice if the systray would re-hide the icons after a certain timeout.

I have a systray with various icons hidden and showing.
There is a triangle that makes the hidden icons appear again.

After half a minute or so I would typically not need those icons anymore. Provided my mouse has not been inside the systray all that time.

This is a feature that was available in kde3

This is also done in Windows (XP at least). I'd suggest much less than a minute. In Windows this is done with a nice little animation but that is just eye candy.

I know that KDE4 is neither KDE3 nor Windows but it would still be nice to have this.

(Also, in Windows, you can set icons to "Always show", "Hide when inactive for some time" (they get shown again if something changes) or "Always hide".)

Hi there,
We are in the process of closing wishlist items that have already been reported at KDE. Don't worry, your issue still is being tracked at KDE's bug tracker at: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=178553 . It's just that Kubuntu currently does not have the manpower necessary to take this feature on ourselves. We will receive this functionality once KDE implements it in one of their releases.

Thanks for understanding, and have a nice day.

Would be a nice feature, another thing I would like about the systray is the option to set the amount of icons to show when in hidden mode, maybe giving preference to the icons that were clicked last.

RESOLVED LATER?

What does that mean?

@Artem:
In 2012 KDE "cleaned up" the bug tracker and closed many bugs that were not actively being worked on. Supposedly these are considered desired features but due to lacking manpower they were closed so that KDE would not have many open bugs, which some people consider to be a sign of bad software. See the third graph on this page to understand the matter:
http://reports.kde.org/en/projects/kde-community/bugs_report

Notice on that page that a similar "Clean up" was done when KDE moved from KDE 3 to KDE 4, as it was not certain if the bugs filed were still valid for KDE 4 or not.

If you would like to see this issue resolved, then "RESOLVED LATER" pretty much means that you can reopen it if you intend to work on it. When someone is willing to work on it, then LATER has arrived!

The problem is developers tend to overlook the closed bugs (regardless their state). KDE already has thousands of open bugs and feature requests so there's almost no chance that someone will ever stumble upon this feature request to work on it.

I'm just saying that "RESOLVED LATER" is not the best cause of action.
