Bug Description

As requested by Saïvann Carignan on bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/272247?comments=all, he says to open a new bug report if this issue is still happening on a completely up to date jaunty install

Well, it is still happening and i just installed jaunty alpha 6 last night and its completely up to date

i am running 2.6.28-9-generic (64 bit if that helps anything), and also this issue is present in arch linux as well, which runs 2.6.28-9 as well if i remember correctly. ( I have to hold down a key to boot, unless i am plugged into AC power.)

the laptop i have is a Compaq Presario F767NR

i have attached all the log files that were asked in the previous bug report

This could be a duplicate of bug #354668 "pausing during boot (several issues)" for which there is a very new upstream patch:

commit a682604838763981613e42015cd0e39f2989d6bb "rcu: Teach RCU that idle task is not quiscent state at boot"

Yes, this looks like a duplicate of bug #254668.

Is there a way we could apply the patch to the latest jaunty kernel source and recompile it?

For now i'll try to set a custom DSDT as mentioned by 67GTA in bug #272247

Please don't mark this bug as a duplicate of others whilst I'm assigned to it. There are several potential causes aside from bug #254668, in particular there is an ongoing issue being looked at upstream into MCP67 issues of various kinds which could well be responsible but the situation appears confused for now.

If the RCU patch test kernels provided in bug #254668 comment #118 solve the problem then this bug can eventually be marked as 'Fixed', with a note as to why, but since the other bug has no confirmations that the RCU patches have been tested makring as a duplicate wouldn't be correct.
