Bug Description

Binary package hint: x11-common

1) Ubuntu version: 8.10 Intrepid

2) Output from 'apt-cache policy x11-common' :
xxx@yyy:~$ apt-cache policy x11-common
x11-common:
  Installed: 1:7.4~5ubuntu3
  Candidate: 1:7.4~5ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 1:7.4~5ubuntu3 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Basically the title suggests the problem. The package x11-common is shipped with this file --- /usr/share/X11/rgb.txt --- which is a broken symlink to /etc/X11/rgb.txt.

As I also am being affected by this, maybe I can give some extra info.

The file /etc/X11/rgb.txt used to be installed as part of x11-common (and still is for Debian unstable).
Recent versions no longer include the file, but still install a (broken) symlink to it
 See /usr/share/doc/x11-common/changelog.gz:
    xorg (1:7.4~1) experimental; urgency=low

   * X.Org 7.4 release candidate
   ...
   * xserver 1.5 doesn't use an external rgb database, don't bother installing

Unfortunately, it's not only xserver that is affected by this file. Its lack breaks netpbm, xcolors, vncserver, and so on.
