Bug Description

Binary package hint: gdm

I can login. I hear the start up sound. Thunderbird and pidgin start(but not xchat or other apps that should auto start) both applications are missing the title bar and the minimize/close boxes. There is no background wall paper, no icons. ctl+f2 does not respond. ctl+alt+backspace does respond. I've rebooted dozens of times. Here are the logs...

I do have remote ssh access, and I can get to a local terminal, but I can't seem to be able to start a terminal while in GDM.

The key would appear to be (kern.log):

[ 374.936634] metacity[8085]: segfault at 0 ip 080abab3 sp bfa1c800 error 4 in metacity[8048000+7a000]

and may be related to (Xorg.0.log):
AUDIT: Tue Feb 17 22:55:11 2009: 7857 X: client 4 rejected from local host ( uid=1000 gid=1000 pid=7918 )

which is probably caused by (.xsession errors):

MainThread 2009/02/17 22:55:12.0786 (sabayon-apply): Applying profile '/etc/desktop-profiles/user.zip' for user 'quentusrex'
MainThread 2009/02/17 22:55:12.1798 (sabayon-apply): Fatal exception! Exiting abnormally.

Which probably means that the gconf profile isn't being put in pace and therefore gnome has no idea what to do.

There are a whole bunch of errors and exceptions in .xsession-errors following the failure of sabayon-apply
