Bug Description

Binary package hint: kpackage-kde4

Np progress at all with the last version 4.1.4 ; we could even say that there is a regression as now in user mode and root mode as weel we end up with an empty window and the mouse clock pointer that is supposed to show that a backgrounf job is taking place though is never terminates !

Based on the upstream bug, it appears this has been problematic since 4.1.0.

Works for me on i386, so might very well be related to 64-bit only; can anyone confirm this?

when launched on Hardy 64 bits (installed in /usr/lib/kde4/bin) same problem as on intrepid ; it never terminates ; this is what I get when launching from konsole :
$ /usr/lib/kde4/bin/kpackage
kpackage(12208) pkgInterface::ifExe: Program not found: "rpm"
kpackage(12208) KpTreeList::readTreePos: KpTreeList::readTreePos()
kpackage(12208) managementWidget::readPSeparator: managementWidget::readPSeparator()
kpackage(12208) KPKG::setupMenu: kpinterface[DEBt]->makeMenu
kpackage(12208) DEB::makeMenu: DEB::makeMenu
kpackage(12208) kpPty::breakUpCmd: kpPty::run CMD=" "smart query --installed" " pty = kpKProcIO(0x7068e0)
kpackage(12208) kpPty::run: return Result= 0 2684
kpackage(12208) kpPty::breakUpCmd: kpPty::run CMD=" "/bin/sh -c 'smart info --urls >/home/dmoyne/.kde4/tmp-azun/smart.list'" " pty = kpKProcIO(0x7068e0)
kpackage(12208) kpPty::run: return Result= 0 0

I am wondering wthether something could be missing because dependance status is not properly set ; I am remembereing having met such situation before ; some app or module was mising and there was no clear error or notification message displayed.

Regards.

KPackage will be removed in the next package upload to 9.10 since it is in quite bad shape and Kubuntu does not want to put any effort into it. Please use KPackageKit, which is considered to replace KPackage altogether.
Due to the changed conditions I will close this bug as Won't fix.

We hope that you can understand the motivation behind this step and wish you a very nice day.

Thanks for this information ; I will check for Kpackagekit BUT I do not think that this application does display the content of the package as Kpackage did ; as a matter of fact I think that the only package loader on Ubuntu that can list the content of the package was Kpackage ; thais was particularly of interest when for some reason we had to access a file of the package to apply a fix.
Regards.
