Hum, which link-gramma package is that?

Ok, I have started working on this, waiting for the compile to finish.

This compiles in link-grammar support and adds the needed dependancies on link-grammar and its libraries.

This is not a wishlist item, it's either a defect or a "won't fix" we inherited from Debian. Can we please get this bumped-up in importance.

Thanks!

Darn! I cannot believe that such an outright bug is marked as "low urgency". This should be bumped-up and escalated to a medium to serious issue. Abiword is the only wordprocessor that supports grammar check in ubuntu. So this is going to affect general user experience and handicap users.

I thought I had borked the installation, but it's a known bug.

It's annoying to find that a useful tool has been knowingly crippled for a year an a half because of a Debian bug. Especially when you are also distributing EDUBUNTU ... grammar checkers are one way to help people learn how to write.

It's August, the 18th 2007 (22 months after its first report) and this bug is still there, affecting LinuxMint 3.0 (derived from Ubuntu Feisty Fawn) as well. No other Linux wordprocessor supplies a usable grammar checker so foreign Linux users like me cannot have any kind of english language checker. Does the Abiword/Ubuntu maintainer really think this is a "wishlist" item or a "don't fix" bug?

Yea, it's amazing...this is the kind of "quality upgrading" that drove MEPIS away from Ubuntu & back to Debian for their core & most packages.

Still no grammar in Gutsy as far as I can tell.

Obviously the patch I uploaded before is outdated, but given the lack of someone to talk to about this, I'm not very inclined to put the time and effort into making another patch just to have it bitrot again. If someone can track down the abiword maintainer and get them to share their opinion (at least, why it hasn't been packaged yet) or promise to at least look at a patch if one is written, then I would be more than willing to patch-magic this again.

It is also worth noting that a link-grammer package does exist in Gutsy, all that needs to be done is the make magic.

This bug will be "Fix Released" only when 2.6 is uploaded to Ubuntu: http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/abiword/+bug/202174
The plugin will be shipped (and should be working now) in the abiword-plugins package.
(Note there are newer releases of link-grammar available from AbiSource with many, many improvements including some memory and I believe security fixes)
