Bug Description

2.6.27-10-generic loads r8169 on MSI Wind perfectly:

root@arthur:~# dmesg | grep r8169
[ 4.864018] r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.3LK-NAPI loaded
[ 4.864058] r8169 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
[ 4.864091] r8169 0000:01:00.0: setting latency timer to 64
[ 4.864113] r8169 0000:01:00.0: unknown MAC (37a00000)
[ 50.841806] r8169: eth0: link up

on 2.6.27-11-generic, Network Manager loops getting an IP address on wired connection. After checking dmesg and removing r8169 driver a couple of times, the following appears on dmesg:

root@arthur:~# dmesg | grep r8169 (on 2.6.27-11)
[ 165.428202] r8169 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A disabled
[ 173.196164] r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.3LK-NAPI loaded
[ 173.196204] r8169 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
[ 173.196218] r8169 0000:01:00.0: cache line size of 32 is not supported
[ 173.196230] r8169 0000:01:00.0: PCI INT A disabled
[ 173.196250] r8169: probe of 0000:01:00.0 failed with error -22

Upgraded to 2.6.27-11 this afternoon.

Workaround : keep booting 2.6.27-10-generic.

Marking bug as invalid based on Juan's comments. Here is a link in case anyone has an MSI wind and is having trouble getting it to work: http://k.dieplz.net/evolution/2008/11/22/wlan-in-ubuntu-8-10-on-new-msi-wind-u100/ it offers a good explanation of why there isn't a current driver package, and offers some suggestions. YMMV.

This bug also affects me. MSI Wind U90X. After upgrading kernel to 2.6.27-11 wired network does not work.

01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8101E/RTL8102E PCI Express Fast Ethernet controller (rev 02)

I've also found some errors in syslog (attached).

Chris, the page you mentioned (http://k.dieplz.net/evolution/2008/11/22/wlan-in-ubuntu-8-10-on-new-msi-wind-u100/) is related to WiFi card (RTL8187SE), not Ethernet (RTL8101E/RTL8102E, supposed driver r8169).

Juan Carlos, if the product is incorrect, please correct the product statement in this bug and don't call for closing it. I can confirm the existance of this bug too on my MSI Wind U-100.
