Bug Description

Please remove all iceweasel packages from Jaunty archives due to them being dependant on Iceweasel and non of the browsers we have. We have packages for all of the ones that iceweasel has. list of packages below:

iceweasel-dom-inspector
iceweasel-firegpg (i have this done for firefox and our other packages waiting to be uploaded)
iceweasel-linky (if not yet we can build this to reflect Mozilla-extensions-dev team specs.)
iceweasel-scrapbook (someone was working on this)
iceweasel-vimperator (not sure about this one but im sure if needed it can be done.)

All extensions are found https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Extensions/List not all have been uploaded but we have to get around to looking at each one and see if done or not.

I will ask asac or fta to ack this for removal

we should rather rename them upstream. I never understood why folks add a prefix even though most work on multiple mozilla xul applications anyway.

That would just make that much more work since we have already packaged
them. changing depends it more work than its worth since we have most if
not all packaged (either in archives or ready or being worked on. If one
of them are not any of the above 1 or 2 we can package. I dont like the
idea of fixing each package since we have them.

To rename and modify iceweasel-* and upgrading it to current release is a bit of alot of work (we dont know if iceweasel packages work) It would be easier to use our packages (that already have the changes above and are up to date) and erge them ffrom Ubuntu into Debian like we do with all other Mozilla apps.
Anyway it makes more sense to do it this way IMHO

this is covered by firefox-dom-inspector and friends, so should be
 dropped.

We have our own'

we should have our own ... unless constant merging becomes a pain.

Can you find out who that "someone" was and whats the state on that
effort?

hmmm ... in worst case we keep this for the time being.

You are right. Just would like to recall that in case we dont have it
packaged we should try to convince upstream (as in debian) to drop
this stupid name prefix. If that doesnt work out: maintain on our own
and remove the iceweasel stuff.

According to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Extensions/List
jazzva has done it it seems to be in archives kind of. please see:
https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/scrapbook
Not real sure if he used iceweasel-* or if he built from scratch.
Looks to have been synced but im not sure what shape the package is in, we need to ask jazzva.

Hello,

Scrapbook is provided by scrapbook package. iceweasel-scrapbook is a transitional package that depends on it. It was merged from Debian, which uses iceweasel-scrapbook as the package name.

Since Ubuntu packages more extensions that Debian does why not merge the
other way like we do with sunbird/lightning, once we have it updated in
BZR we can push to Debian. That gets rid of naming issues.
Ours are also updated more often.

I think the answer to this is that you are right. we should do that
for extensions that dont exist in debian.

However our bottleneck for this is clearly that we lack debian
uploaders. I think I am currently the only one involved in our team
that can upload there.

I think we should consider to do that still. For that we should target
one or two update batches for debian. Can you assemble a list of
extensions that should go to debian?

iceweasel-firegpg - iceweasel extension to use GnuPG in web pages
iceweasel-linky - iceweasel extension to handle web and image links
iceweasel-scrapbook - dummy transitional package for ScrapBook
iceweasel-vimperator - Iceweasel extension to make it have vim look and feel

This should be removed from the archive.

> iceweasel-firegpg - iceweasel extension to use GnuPG in web pages

We have firegpg on our own, so dont sync it / aka remove it from
archive and prevent future syncs.

> iceweasel-linky - iceweasel extension to handle web and image links

As long as we dont have any non-iceweasel equivalent, we should look
into fixing the packages so they can be used with firefox-3.0
(probably just add the proper links to firefox-addons and change the
Depends:).

Renaming packages we synched from debian doesnt work and we should
only do that if we want to maintain this on our own in future.

for extensions we are working on them to use only name of extension dropping ice* and firefox ect... we are also working with Debian on this IIRC

John Vivirito (gnomefreak) wrote :

As for the extensions we are changing the names to uxl-* Debian as well so we no longer need to build dummy packages anyway.

here are the packages that are in Lucid with ice*

iceweasel-dom-inspector - tool for inspecting the DOM of pages in Iceweasel
iceweasel-downloadstatusbar - Iceweasel addon that provides an improved download statusbar
iceweasel-downthemall - iceweasel extension with advanced download capabilities
iceweasel-fission - combines address bar and progress bar for iceweasel
iceweasel-scrapbook - dummy transitional package for ScrapBook
icedove-attachmentreminder - Missing attachment warnings for Icedove
icedove-gcontactsync - synchronizes contacts from Gmail into IceDove
icedove-quotecolors - Colorize different quoting levels in e-mail messages

dummy packages:
iceape - dummy upgrade package for the SeaMonkey Internet Suite
iceape-browser - dummy upgrade package for SeaMonkey Navigator
iceape-calendar - dummy upgrade package for SeaMonkey Navigator
iceape-chatzilla - dummy upgrade package for SeaMonkey Chatzilla IRC client
iceape-dbg - dummy upgrade package for SeaMonkey Debug package
iceape-dev - dummy upgrade package for SeaMonkey SDK
iceape-dom-inspector - dummy upgrade package for the DOM Inspector for the SeaMonkey
iceape-gnome-support - dummy upgrade package for SeaMonkey Gnome Support
iceape-mailnews - dummy upgrade package for SeaMonkey Mail & Newsgroups and Address Book

Not sure if we should remove ice* from the builds since we no longer use ice* packages so i dont see a reason to build them still just adds to the package size and in iceapes case it is already a big package with all of the suite.
