Running 8.04 here with all the latest updates, same thing here. Trying to figure out how to produce a backtrace on gwibber.

That's odd. The only thing I get when running from terminal is "Segmentation fault".

It's running fine on my desktop Intrepid machine. But my Eee with 8.04 won't start Gwibber, it only says "Segmentation fault" in the terminal.

That's bad, because yesterday I recommended Gwibber to someone via twitter, but he also only got this error - and won't bother again with this nice program :-(.

I get the same simple "Segmentation fault" as Wes on my up to date 8.04 machine. A windows comes up and closes so fast I can barely see it. Also, I get an icon briefly in AWN, then it goes away.

If I run it with sudo, I get the following:

console message: undefined @1: ReferenceError: Can't find variable: addMessages
console message: undefined @22: ReferenceError: Can't find variable: setGtkConfig
console message: undefined @1: ReferenceError: Can't find variable: setAccountConfig
console message: undefined @1: ReferenceError: Can't find variable: addMessages
console message: undefined @22: ReferenceError: Can't find variable: setGtkConfig
console message: undefined @1: ReferenceError: Can't find variable: setAccountConfig
Segmentation fault

I'm not sure exactly when it broke, as I hadn't been using it because I hadn't used if for a couple weeks.

Thanks,

Chris

I upgraded to Intrepid on my notebook - but the error was the same.

But I found out, that it seems to be the same problem as mentioned here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gwibber/+bug/304033

There is one solution given: "You can either downgrade the package via Synaptic: Select libwebkit-1.0-1 and go to Package | Force Version.... Select the version from either intrepid-updates or intrepid (depending on which repositories you have enabled)."

I have done that and restarted Gwibber - and everything was fine.

Greetings,
Andreas

Unfortunately, that does not work for someone running Hardy. As far as I know, it is also very unwise to add Intrepid repos to Hardy. I'm going to check in the irc channel and see if anyone has any ideas.

The libwebkit update in the ppa has resolved this issue. If the issue still persists for anyone after upgrading, please feel free to reopen the bug.

I have upgraded to the new version and the PPA -- am on Hardy. This has fixed the segfault when gWibber starts so it starts fine. Could add my twitter account but the display window does not update .. it stays blank.

I however do get the notifications in the Panel when new tweets arrive.

So this is not fully fixed.

Marius:
Please look at this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gwibber/+bug/304033

As far as I can tell, these are two separate but similar issues, thus two separate bugs.
