Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-nettool

Once installed Ubuntu 8.10 64 AMD, Firefox takes minutes to load common pages such as www.google.com.
I expected to load normal pages in a few seconds, but it takes minutes.
I have a Telefonica 6MB ADSL connection that usually works very acceptable.
Please help.
Thanks
León

Have you tried opera? It's a great alternative to firefox and you could check if the problem is with firefox or with your connection.

You can download opera at opera.com. Even though it's not in the repos, there is a .deb-file and the installation is really quick and easy.

Many thanks Bernhard. I am answering through Google´s Gmail in
WindowsXP,SP2. I just unloaded SP2 at 526KB/s speed, so I have to
discard the connection as the origin of the Firefox slownees jn
Ubuntu.
Next time I open Ubuntu, I shall install Opera as per your advice.
Thanks,
Leon

Hmm, i found adding in the 'Adblock Plus' made a huge difference in speed, not that i actually seemed to get many pop-ups or anything before but even so the AdblockPlus really helped.

Thank-you. Since then I unisntalled Ubuntu 8.10 and back again with
8.04. As Firefox did not improve, I installed WindowsXP and Google's
both Chrome and Gmail. Chrome takes 3 seconds to open the main page
and 1 second or 2 for other web pages, against minutes for Firefox in
Ubuntu. So, there is a big gap difference. The Gmail icon on the
desktop takes about a couple of seconds to show the mail. It is
amazing how Google is pushing.
I still have 8.04 installed as a second OS, but for the time being I
have no better option that Chrome and Gmail in WindowsXP.
I am grateful for your help.
