Bug Description

Binary package hint: kde

A Hardy install was updated to Intrepid 8.10 and it was noted that previous hotkeys were inactive. Specifically Alt-Shift-A to invoke konsole.

The System Settings keyboard configuration was used to remove the keybindings from khotkeys and kde Menu Editor. Alt-Shift-K was also removed from konqueror. These changes were applied, System Settings exited and then re-entered to ensure that the bindings had gone. They had. The system was logged out and restarted. Sytem Settings were checked again - both keybindings were still absent.

Using the Menu Editor (right-click on K), the konsole was located under System and an attempt to change the shortcut key under the Advanced tab was made. A warning window from the KDE Menu Editor reported that "The key Alt+Shift+A can not be used here because it is already in use." Using another shortket did not produce an error.

On re-checking the keybindings with System Settings, the Alt+Shift+A keybinding had been unexpectedly replaced.

Not only but also, the Alt-Shift-K keybinding had been replaced.

It does not appear to be possible to re-allocate keybindings from KDE under Hardy to KDE4.1 under Intrepid because of this issue, and the original keybindings no longer function.

Now fixed (Allah be praised) in Jaunty, where System Settings - Input Actions allow hotkeys to be defined.
