Bug Description

Binary package hint: libswfdec-0.8-0

I noticed that swfdec on Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit crashes on certain YouTube video's (not all). I filed a bug upstream – http://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18463 – and I was told that this was most likely fixed already in swfdec 0.8.2, which was released recently on the 23th of October. I hope Ubuntu can update the swfdec package to 0.8.2, because otherwise it's impossible to watch certain video's. The changelog – http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/swfdec/2008-October/002081.html – doesn't seem to be spectacular, so an upgrade wouldn't be too risky for Ubuntu's policies?

This should be already fixed in 0.8.2 and it should happens only with h264/aac videos. I know that most distro are not up to date with packages but maybe filing a "new upstream release" bug in their bts may improve the situation. In your specific case you can even try to rebuild the debian package.

I already mentioned this URL in the upstream bugreport to which I gave a link in the description.

The new version 0.8.2 just gave me black screen on the video previously mentionned. So, FF did not freeze as previously, but no real gain yet.

h264 video playback is available in git master and 0.9.2. In 0.8 tree only the freeze has been fixed since swfdec policy is to apply only fixes in the stable tree. Please add yourself to cc in bugzilla #18187 if you want to be updated on h264/aac support. Thanks.

Didier, 0.8.4 should give you full playback for youtube h264/aac videos. You may want to reference upstream bug 18187. Thanks.

Riccardo, I synced the last package to have no difference between us and debian unstable and I do not want to add an extra one at this time.

Furthermore, at this stage of development, there is no more automatic syncing from debian. Can you please ping me to fill a sync request when debian unstable will update from 0.8.2-1 to 0.8.4-1.
If you think this feature is really needed though and that debian is not updating it, please shout :)

FYI: bug #321950.
I will close this one when the sync will be done for jaunty (don't set them as DUP as they are not really duplicated).
