Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubiquity

Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

64 bit version

I just tried to install from the live CD and after having finished the step of manually setting up the partitions on the disk, the installation continued and after a few minutes Ubuntu was started with a Live session user.

I should stress that my computer may have problems with overheating. When I tried to install Ubuntu 8.04, it reported a problem saying that there was a problem with the DVD, DVD player, hard drive or maybe something with the cooling.

It looks like you have a bad CD burn or faulty hardware. I suggest burning a new copy of the CD at a slower speed, run the CD integrity check off the CD boot menu, and then try the install again.

Hmm, I was using the ISO in a virtual no CD. Odd.

I have no idea if this problem still occurs with 8.10. I was using 32 bit at the time. Looks like lots of people had this bug (from duplicates).
I eventually did install 8.10. I can barely remember this bug. Although I did have problems installing 9.04 (crash near end of installer). But eventually it stopped crashing to install it on 3rd try. I probably did file a bug, but for some reason launchpad doesn't show it or even this bug on my personal page.
I am now using 9.04.

Jon or anyone else experiencing this bug when using an ISO,
Can you please check that the MD5 checksum of the ISO you downloaded matches the MD5 checksum provided on the Ubuntu website, following the instructions at <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM>.

Also, can you please run the "Check CD for defects" test from the CD boot menu.

This could be a bug in squashfs, but we'll need to first rule out the possibility of data corruption.

Thanks!

Either this bug is the same as the others 22 dups, and hence no, the problem is not in the ISO, either this is different and hence no, it's not a dup.

In any of those cases, I don't see the point of making just a "Confirmed -> Incomplete" change.

Hi,

I had the same problem with 9.10 64-bit. I checked the CD for defects at boot, no problem could be detected.
Could this be a hardware issue?
My configuration is a Asus M4A78T-E mainboard with DDR-3 RAM without ECC and an AMD Athlon II 250 Processor.
Or could the harddrive be the cause for the error?

Greetings,
Ashwani Mehlem

This occurred to me while doing a clean install of Xubuntu 9.10 from the live CD. No obvious negative impact at this point, but I'm still running off the live CD. I wasn't at the PC when installation finished, and all I saw when I came back was the clean desktop and the "Crash report detected" alert.

Hi.

I retried to install today and it worked.
I downloaded the 64bit-desktop-ISO today and installed in English,
this worked fine. Hardware was not changed.

I was reinstalling 9.10 from CD when I got this. I actually noticed that my previous (upgraded) 9.10 system was very unstable until I added "noapic" to the kernel command line. Perhaps this is related to that problem.

this has happened to me twice today with 10.4. I even bought another live CD and still it happened. Infact I was trying to reinstall 10.4 after unsuccessfully upgrading via the command line. I am kinda fed up.

I've been repeatedly getting this whilst trying to install 9.04 and 10.4 (separately) on to a USB stick.
