[19:41] <Riddell> marc_: attach the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade/*
[19:41] <Riddell> marc_: also a screenshot of the tool in its final state might be useful

Thanks for your bugreport.

Do you see any terminal output when this happens? It seems like there is a failure to start the upgrade tool for some reason (its a seperate application from adept).

Hi Michael,

As far as I could see, there was no terminal window popping up.
I just saw very quickly a download progress bar for less than 1 second.

I can reproduce it by closing the update manager and repeating the procedure.

Is there a command line alternative to the update mgr procedure ?

Best rgds,

I just tried the same with the final 8.10 release, with the same outcome.

This time I launched the process from a root terminal,
so here is the result:

root@l1:/# kdesudo "adept_manager --dist-upgrade"
UpgradeWizard::checkForDistUpgrade

kapture::PkgSystem::PkgSystem()

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the new release - Karmic Koala. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

Hi,

Thanks for your interest in fixing this bug.

In the mean time, I did a successfull upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10, on the same
hardware PC.
So whatever caused the error in 8.04 has been fixed, or I now perhaps do not
have the same packages/libraries combination that may have caused it
installed.
So at this moment I cannot reproduce the bug anymore, As It did not occur
in 9.04.
