Bug Description

I've found these little bugs.
In few words when I start Ubuntu, the musics of the login and the intro (I'm not sure if you can understand what i'm saying) is unsynchronized than the windows. I always heard it when i've done the login for ~30 secs.

Hi thanks for reporting your bug. Could you please clarify what you mean. I think there are two relevant sounds. The budablup (drum sound) when you are presented with the login screen and the sound after you have entered your login name and password.

Is your issue that this second sound is coming at a different time than it did before?

The problem afflicts all the two sounds:

- The first: When the login screen appears after boot.
- The second: When I've entered my login name and passwords.

Both are reproduced with delay.
What I've to do for report to you any bugs?
I'm sorry but I'm not an expert of Ubuntu, I'm using it only for 6 months.

No worries about being unexperienced, unfortunately I don't know very much
either.

First off what version of ubuntu are you using?
-you can find this by opening a terminal in
applications->accessories->terminal and entering the command 'lsb_release
-rd' or going to system->about ubuntu.

The next step is to try and find the package that your bug affects.
-This page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage is the best place
to start though Im not sure its going to be all that helpful.

I am marking this bug incomplete until the above information is found.

FYI Intrepid Ibex the latest release of ubuntu is due to come out tomorrow.
This means that if any fix does come around for this bug it will not show up
for six months in the Jaunty Jackalope release likely numbered 9.04. Also I
fix for this will not be high on a developers list it could be caused any
number of things such as your computer benig slower than others or a new
process loading befor the sound is played.

All in all thanks for reporting you issue and participating in the
community. Please feal encouraged to report any other bugs that come to your
attention.

Thank you so much for your answer..
I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex beta, and problems appared after done all the updates.
Now I'm downloading the stable version of Intrepid, I'll check if the problems persist..

Now I'm from Intrepid Ibex Stable.
This problem now afflicts only the first sound: the "budablup".
The second one works.

I can confirm this bug. Have it for a few weeks now.
Using a 64 bit Intrepid (proposed repository enabled).

I try to describe this behaviour in that way:
I start my computer but the "ready, waiting to login drum sound" is not there. Then I log in and when the Ubuntu login sound should come, the drums come. And a few seconds after that the Ubuntu login successful sound.
Thanks.

By the way: I use a AMD dualcore with 2x2.5 ghz, so the speed of my system should really not cause this.

And I think this is a gnome bug, but dunno though which package exactly. If someone knows better, please correct me.

Well:
- I didn't undestand what happenened to Elias K Gardner. (I'm sorry for this XD)
- For goto:

I think the problem is caused by a combination of GNOME 2.24.1 and the new Kernel "2.6.27-*-generic".
I believe this because, for other problems (Hardware Compatibily), I decided to Downgrade the Kernel at the "2.6.24.21-generic". (In other words, Hardy heron's last Kernel).
And now, the sound works perfectly. (Sometimes it delays but it's imperceptible).

When the last Intrepid Ibex's Kernel (2.6.27-9-generic) was released I tried it but the delay was always present.
Now I'm using Heron's kernel.
I hope I have helped someone..

(Sorry for my bad-english)
Giacomo

Interesting. But the problem is not so bad, that I will downgrade my kernel. Everything else is working.

Interesting! I just compiled a new kernel for the first time successful (yeah! :) ) And with 2.6.28 there is no problem. So you are right, this is definitive a kernel issue in linux 2.6.27.*
Thanks!

By the way: It is here more like 10 seconds delay, not 30.

I have 30 seconds of delay.. But I don't know. I always use Heron's Kernel and I'm ok!
Sorry for months of silence, but I forgot this topic.. XD

I also have this (minor) problem. It appeared when I made a clean install of Intrepid six months ago, and it persists now that I've upgraded to Jaunty. The drum sound comes a few seconds delayed.

I experienced the same thing, but after some starts and restarts the drum
sound seems to be on time.

I noticed that the delay happens only when I come back from a shutdown. When I come back from a restart, the drum sound plays just on time. Maybe this can help.

I am also seeing this in Jaunty, but not sure if it's gdm at fault or the kernel (unlikely). Will run apport for more debugging info.
