Bug Description

I used the grub editor in kde4 systemsettings panel to remove some of the kernel-listings that grub can run.
When I upgraded the linux-image-2.6.27-7-generic package I was told there was a conflict because I had edited the grub file. Did I want to install the new one supplied or did I want to keep my own.
The upgrade should just add the new kernel to the menu and keep the users settings.

This would seem to be a feature for grub rather than the kernel. I'm reassigning.

Frankly, I think this needs to be resolved in kgrubeditor. The grub framework we have is one that we're pretty much stuck with until we can switch to grub2; if kgrubeditor can't edit menu.lst without generating conflict errors, then it ought not to give users the option.

In your case, I think what you really want is to remove the packages for the obsolete kernels you're no longer using, rather than editing menu.lst by hand.

So you mean that you would prefer not to able to interact with Automagic kernels at all? Because any interaction with these would cause "conflict errors".

This bug is the same as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub/+bug/238339 with the only difference that it is specific to KGRUBEditor.

As I see it, since we are stuck with this really "smart" framework, Automagic should not be touched at all...Only reserved as is. This is really frustrating because there was an initiative to provide full Automagic support through KGRUBEditor. Is it impossible to set a sane default in this "Conflict DIalog"?
