Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

OS: Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron
firefox:
  Installed: 3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.3
  Candidate: 3.0.2+build6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu Hardy Heron which uses firefox-3.0. The
flash audio (ie. in YouTube) does not work. I believe this is because
firefox tries to use the sound card instead of my logitech USB speakers.
I can play all other audio without problem (ie. with Rythmbox).

Old Fix for Firefox-2: I could edit the /etc/firefox/firefoxrc file by
ensuring that the “FIREFOX_DSP" parameter was set to aoss (ie.
“FIREFOX_DSP=aoss”).

Why this does not work for Firefox-3.0: There is no firefoxrc file to
edit.

Hello!
Have you tried creating the file /etc/firefox/firefoxrc and doing the same workaround you did with firefox2?
Thanks for your bug report.

I have also changed the title because it was not very intuitive.

Creating a file /etc/firefox/firefoxrc containing the text

FIREFOX_DSP="aoss"

does take care of the problem.

@Alexander: Then what's the fix if this is still a problem? I'm having the same issue after setting my sound to Internal 7.1 output + analog stereo input, based on my system specs. All sound works, even Chromium, but Firefox does not. Please advise.
