Bug Description

the release of brasero in intrepid is unstable. the current stable release is 0.7.1

this preview release also looks awkward as it has an odd number of buttons on the main screen, it looks like its missing something. see the attached screenshot.

unless a stable version is released before intrepid's launch, we should use 0.7.1, and roll out updates when they have another stable release.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in brasero.
For future reference you might be interested to know that a lot of applications have bug reporting functionality built in to them. This can be accessed via the Report a Problem option in the Help menu for the application with which you are having an issue. You can learn more about this feature at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

You mention in the bug description that you have a screenshot. However, it appears that you forgot to attach it. Also, could you please explain why you feel that the version of brasero in Intrepid is not stable. Reporting the issues that make brasero unstable would be much more beneficial. That way, we could have a stable version of 0.8.2 instead of having to revert to 0.7.1. Thanks in advance.

oops, heres the attachment.

now, look at it, and notice the big, unused, empty space next to the burn image button. it looks awkward, as if it's missing something. i think that the burn image feature be merged with the disk copy feature. in other words, what should happen is there shouldn't be a "burn image" button, and instead if you want to burn an image, you would click on "disk copy," and you should be able to select disk image files from there. i will post some mock-ups later

as for the other thing, the brasero website on gnome.org says that version 0.8.1 is a development release, and the latest stable release is 0.7.1 (and on wikipedia too

We are in User Interface Freeze right now. This means that we would need to get the approval from the release team (through the form of a freeze exception) in order to make any changes to the user interface in brasero. I personally do not see anything wrong with having the empty space. It is also not a serious issue. As a result, I think it is unlikely that an exception would be granted to change the layout of the buttons.

As for your second point, although 0.7.1 might be the current stable version of brasero, it does not mean that 0.8.2 is necessarily unstable. In the versions that have been release since 0.7.1, there have been many bug fixes. There have also been several new features. Unless a very serious regression has been introduced, there is no reason to downgrade to 0.7.1. Downgrading would cause more problems than it would fix. If some of the new features that have been introduced since 0.7.1 contain minor bugs, it would be better to simply patch those bugs than to downgrade.

I personally do not see any reason to change the user interface or downgrade the package. If you really want to see the user interface changed, I would suggest contacting the upstream developer. A change like that would most likely get implemented upstream.

For the reasons stated above, I am going to close this bug report. If you still feel it is valid, please feel free to re-open it by changing the Status back to 'New'.

Jessie, those mockup images look very nice. If you really feel that the user interface should be changed, create a bug report upstream at http://bugzilla.gnome.org/. If you do decide to do that, be sure to add a bug watch to this bug report so that we can track it.
