Bug Description

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 with the 2.6.24-21 x86_64 kernel.
I'm burning an audio CD with Brasero, and as soon as the actual burning started, everything on the system has started to lag. The USB mouse, the touchpad and keyboard, and also things like AWN and desktop switches with compiz. They seem to be on and off, with things alright for a short bit and then a second or two of lag.
I had a separate problem with Rhythmbox freezing up the system, and I don't think this happened before with Brasero.

I have 3 GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo at 1.83 GHz. Brasero did seem to be using a lot of CPU for just burning a CD, but there was also enough room for my BOINC to keep running, so I don't think it was having a problem getting processor time.
