Bug Description
On an x86_64 install of Intrepid, installed in French but with English support fully installed (and even when using an English session), spell checking in Open Office doesn't report any errors, while spell checking for French works.
Spell checking works for English in gedit, though.

Do you have the language for the document set to English and do you have the dictionary for that language installed?
Tools-> Options- >Language Settings->Languages
If you don't see an ABC with checkmark beside the language it can't be spellchecked without installing a dictionary first.
