Bug Description

file-browser-applet (0.5.6-1) in Intrepid depends on libgnome-desktop-2, which will not be in Intrepid:

http://people.ubuntu.com/~ubuntu-archive/NBS/libgnome-desktop-2

The version in Debian removes this dependency.

Debian changes since current Ubuntu version:

 file-browser-applet (0.5.9-1) unstable; urgency=low

   * New upstream release. (Closes: #497078)
   * debian/control:
    - Remove Build-Depend on libgnomevfs2-dev and add Build-Depend
      on libglib2.0-dev as upstream has moved to GIO. (Closes: #493878)
    - Remove depreciated Depends and Build Depends on libgnome-desktop{-dev}
   * Fixes Lintian warning: timewarp-standards-version

Upstream changes:

Version 0.5.9

    * Fixed a few bugs in the build system.

Version 0.5.8

    * Migrated to gio (and removed dependency on gnome-vfs and libgnomedesktop).
    * Fixed bugs #10, #12, #28, #32.
    * More build system fixes (thanks to Deji Akingunola)
    * Added optional keyboard activation (a.k.a. hotkey). libgtkhotkey is required for this functionality. Activation is currently bound to <Super>h
    * Fixed icon size in menu items.
    * Improved keyboard navigation.
    * Better long file name ellipsize

thank you for your work there, the change is not correct thouse, the shlibs add those depends and there is not need to list the library there, could you have a look at the new version available in debian and maybe ask an sync request, the new version use gio rather than gnome-vfs and fix the issue there

Thanks Sebastien. I'm the maintainer in Debian, but I thought at this point in the release cycle simply bumping the Depends made more sense than bringing in the new version. Despite the fact that I see now that there never needed to be a direct Depends on libgnome-desktop-2 in the first place. I just want to make sure that this package doesn't get removed from the archive. I suppose if someone doesn't want to sponsor the sync, I could simply remove the Depends on libgnome-desktop-* all together, since as you say shlibs picks it up.

That said, I already have the new version in my PPA backported to both Hardy and Intrepid with no source changes needed. Changing into sync request...

FFe granted by seb128 on IRC:

[20:27:46] geser | seb128: does file-browser-applet fall into your responsibility to grant a FFe or is ~motu-release responsible for it? bug 271629
[20:37:09] seb128 | geser: I'm not sure what is my responsability to grant or not since that's something MOTU decided, but as I understand it I can grant desktop expections or that one is a switch to gio and worth having so I grant it ;-)
