Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnash

The latest Version of Gnash 0.8.3 is not in the repos. This is a problem because older versions no longer can play youtube or much of the flash content on the internet.

I can confirm that version "0.8.2-0ubuntu3" (Hardy and Intrepid) cannot play youtube FLV videos, and 0.8.3* can. Upstream Version Freeze has now passed, however it may be possible to raise an exemption.

Assigning to gnash team, as they have already built 0.8.3 package, and will best know how to action this. They may choose to raise an exemption or close this bug for Intrepid.

As a work around, it is possible to install 0.8.3 by using the gnash-team's PPA:
https://edge.launchpad.net/~gnash/+archive

Changed in gnash:
assignee: nobody → gnash
status: New → Confirmed

I understand this work around exists but I fear that the average user won't know about that and get frustrated with Gnash that is provided in the regular repos. The more people that don't use Gnash and use Adobe the harder it will be to convince them to switch or support it in the future.
