Bug Description
If there are even number of messages in a archive, the MIME-encoded
subjects are displayed just as the MIME-encoded characters.
And, such a problem does not happen when there are odd number of messages
in the archive.

That's truely twisted, and I've no idea why that would be.
I suspect there's some other reason behind what you see than
the even/odd split.
As this has been overhauled for MM2.1, I'm closing this bug
report as Out Of Date.
