Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xgl

Please remove the xserver-xgl package source and xserver-xgl binary packages from Intrepid Universe.

Justification:
*) Xgl is no longer useful for the vast majority of Ubuntu users. All free drivers which have enough 3D support to run Xgl now also support the GL_EXT_texture_from_pixmap extension, as do the new fglrx and nvidia drivers. For these users Xgl is worse than useless.
*) Xgl is all but abandoned upstream. It has been removed from the master branch of xorg git, and the last update to the xgl-0-0-1 branch was six months ago.
*) The xserver-xgl package fails to build from source, and, with the removal of the mesa-swrast-source package from the mesa packaging, will require at least a copy of the mesa source be added to its source tarball before it will build, probably an old copy.

xserver-xgl has no rdepends.

Without xserver-xgl those of us with multiple monitors (Say 3 monitors or more) using multiple graphics cards have no way of bridging those cards together to form one xscreen. Xrandr only works on a single graphics card at this time and nvidia's twinview only works with a single graphics card at this time. I'm looking for any alternate to xserver-xgl but the only option that even comes close right now would be the use of a triplehead2go hardware device but those have limited resolutions. Any ideas would be great - I have a howto / support link going over in the ubuntu forums at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=884161 - complete with video of my current setup. I know i'm not the norm - but i've helped many people who have 3 - 4 monitors and are frustrated with the current state of dualmonitor or more support. This trend is getting more and more popular as LCD's have gotten cheap and triple SLI boards now make it possible to have 3 equally powerful video cards in one system.. I'm searching for ideas / suggestions / howtos / point me in a direction - I search this daily ;) - and I'm willing to put any idea to test and do a writeup.. I love Ubuntu, never going back to windows, and converting our clients PC's daily! (I'm even starting a killboard w/ windows logos - I'm up to 60+!). I have setup multiseat configuration using following blogpost:
http://netpatia.blogspot.com/2009/06/multiseat-in-ubuntu-904.html

The setup uses Xephyr for separation of the virtually big Xorg xscreen. Unfortunately Xephyr does not support OpenGL. I have read somewhere that xserver-xgl does have such functionality. As it is no more available in Jaunty, what other XServer can be used, so that multiseat users would have OpenGL?

I would like to add my support to these fine gentlemen above me. Today Ubuntu has very limited support for multiseat setups. A few years ago, OpenGL didnt matter that much, but now, with Compiz, games, 3D-apps and Gnome 3.0 muttery goodness etc. it is imperative that we find a solution to this.
